After departing the Reno Air Races and making our way to Fallon Nevada, we hooked up with Hwy 50 and crossed the Great Basin. Highway 50 is called the "Loneliest Highway in America", however it turned out to be one of the best stretches of the trip. We were lucky if we passed a car every 45 minutes and we stopped many times to experience the pure silence of the desert. The vast distances across the sloping valleys and mountain ranges without any civilization in sight was a throwback to the way our early pioneers must have seen the west.
